Chairman of the Board
Stephen R. Smith Sr., CIRMS
With over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Steve began his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He was transferred to several cities before he joined the Independent Agency system in 1971.
During his career he has been one of the largest producers of income producing properties, including apartments, office buildings, shopping centers and REITS in the Philadelphia area, including Liberty Place One and Two.
Steve’s extensive knowledge and experience with income producing properties was a natural sedge way for insuring common interest developments in the 1980’s. He is considered a pioneer in risk management for condominium associations.
Steve is a past President of the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP) and a past president of Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of CAI.

Steve earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Penn State University. Since joining Smith Insurance in 1991, Steve has become one of the leading authorities on insurance for common interest developments. He has participated in numerous symposiums and seminars for the Community Association Institute (CAI) and Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP). Steve was the President of the Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of CAI in 2009.

Brian J. Friel, CIC, CIRMS
Brian earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Penn State University. Prior to joining Smith Insurance in 2000, Brian was a Regional Sales Manager for JJ Keating Company in King of Prussia for seven years. Brian is very active in the community association and multi-family housing insurance marketplace. He has participated in numerous symposiums and seminars for the Community Association Institute (CAI), Greater Philadelphia Condominium Managers Association (GPCMA) and Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP). Brian is currently on the Executive Board as Treasurer for the Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of CAI.

Christopher C. Smith, MBA
Chris earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Supply Chain Management from Penn State University. Chris also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Arizona State University. He worked for six years in Supply Chain Management at Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector in Phoenix, Arizona. Chris joined Smith Insurance in 2003 and has participated in numerous symposiums and seminars for the Community Association Institute (CAI) and Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP). He is currently the Committee Chair for the golf committee for the Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of CAI and is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Associate’s council for AAGP.

Megan Whelan, CIC
Megan earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Supply Chain Management from Penn State University. She joined Smith Insurance in 2004 after working for several years as an IT consultant. Megan is very active in the community association and multi-housing industry and is currently serving as Chair of the Social Committee for CAI and also serves on the Helping Hands committee of the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia.

Gene Ebright
Gene has been the Personal Lines Manager for Smith Insurance since he joined the agency in 2003. Prior to Smith Insurance, Gene worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance in Seattle, WA for eight years. Prior to his career in insurance, Gene earned a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Resources from the University of Idaho and was involved in the wildlife resource field with emphasis in wildlife habitat restoration and animal surveys.

Kellie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance from Penn State University. She worked for several years at USF&G before joining Smith Insurance in 1995. Kellie is the Controller and Special Project Manager for Smith Insurance.

Jack O’Hara
Jack earned a Bachelor’s degree with dual majors in Accounting and Marketing Management from Saint Joseph’s University. Jack joined Smith Insurance in 2009 with an extensive background in finance, operations, and agency management. He has served on various boards and is currently a member of the Whitpain Township Zoning Hearing Board. Jack is the Chief Financial Officer and Human Resources Manager for Smith Insurance.

Carrie Smith, MBA
Carrie is the Customer Service Manager and Marketing Manager at Smith Insurance. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management and International Business from Arizona State University. She also earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Carrie worked for five years in Supply Chain Management at Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector in Phoenix, Arizona before joining Smith Insurance in 2003. Carrie is currently on the Education Committee for the Pennsylvania/Delaware Valley Chapter of CAI.
